The culprit: A Spray Tan!
Now, don't get us wrong - Spray Tanning is the perfect on-the-go solution for quick, natural looking color. But rule #1? Never spray the same day as your event! Depending on the solution of choice, you'll have cosmetic bronzers on your skin while the airbrush develops over the following 8-12 hours. During that time, if you sweat or get wet, streaking of the cosmetic bronzers may occur!
For special events, BodiBronze Sunless Spa recommends getting airbrushed 1-2 days in advance. This will ensure the color has fully developed, and all cosmetic bronzers have been washed off in time for the big day!

Now, with all of the huge red carpet events recently, it seems that Christina wasn't the only victim of bad spray tanning decisions! Kiera Knightly attended the premier of her new film last week, donning a questionable spray tan, too:
What could have happened, you might ask? Our thoughts: one of two things:
1) She could have used an at-home tan-in-a-can spray tanning method. Generally these methods are ok for on-the-go quick fixes, but unless you've got someone to help apply evenly (especially on your back!), this method doesn't provide results as good as a customized, professional, airbrush tan.
2) Improper preparation before the spray tan. We always recommend showering and exfoliating very well before your airbrush appointment. This will help slough off as much dry, dead skin as possible, to ensure that each application develops evenly, and with proper maintenance, fades evenly and naturally, too!
And now, the million dollar question.. (drumroll, please!):
How do I prevent spray-tan mishaps like these?
Easy!
Before making any spray tanning decision, research your options.
Make sure you choose a salon that has a good repuation, and only has certified, professional airbrush technicians!
Ask Questions.
As a fairly new industry, many people aren't entirely sure what to expect from a spray tan. It's okay! That's what the professionals are here for. Any reputable spray tanning salon will be able to answer your questions with 100% confidence.
Make sure they listen.
Here at BodiBronze Sunless Spa, we are dedicated to listening to each and every client, and fulfilling their needs based on skin type, what color they are comfortable with, and what they are getting sprayed for. Each client is completely different, and there is never one "cookie-cutter" color or treatment for everyone.
Know the right information.
Getting and maintaining the perfect spray tan is all about knowing what to expect, and how to follow up with the proper after-care. Here's what a good Salon should be letting you know:
Before Your Session:
- Shower, Shave & Exfoliate your skin with a washcloth or loofa. Do not use oil-based products in the shower.
- After showering, do not apply any product (makeup, lotion, perfume, deodorant, etc.)
During Your Session:
- Feel free to wear anything you're comfortable getting airbrushed in. Keep in mind that anything worn during the session will leave tan lines when all is finished.
After Your Session:
- Put on dark, loose-fitting clothing and sandals. Wear this through the duration of the development period.
- Do not wash your hands, shower, or get wet during the development period.
- Wait until 8-12 hours (or until the following day) to shower.
- Keep skin continuously mositurized to ensure the tan lasts as long as possible & fades evenly.
